Funko Pop Alert! Wayward Son

Image
Ever since I discovered that Funko Pop made cars (well, a few, anyway) I had the idea of possibly turning one into the vintage Mustang that Penny rented for them to drive across America in Wayward Son. I didn’t know if it would be possible but I wanted to try so I did a little googling. The Funko Pop I used for this project was originally a piece for wrestler Eddie Guerrero. I figured the car looked vintage enough to pass, and everything else I could figure out later. Well, the first step was removing Eddie, which proved slightly more difficult than I’d hoped. I was wiggling him to see just how attached he was to the seat and he SNAPPED OFF AT THE ANKLES. 😳 Oops. So I grabbed some pliers and pulled out his boots. Done. (Sorry, Eddie.) (I ended up filling the holes in the seat with clay.) The car they drive in Wayward Son is a 1968 Mustang in Tahoe Turquoise, as seen below.  I didn’t feel the need to go all out with super accurate detail, especially seeing as how the car its...

Funko Pop Alert! Shane & Ilya from Heated Rivalry

Image
So I recently read Rachel Reid’s gay hockey romance duo Heated Rivalry and it’s newly published sequel The Long Game. If you read my review(s) a couple posts down, you’ll know that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THEM. And I ADORED the characters. So…  In Heated Rivalry, Shane plays for the Montreal Voyageurs and Ilya for the Boston Bears. I googled those teams to see what I could find in the way of logos and uniforms. Neither of them are actual NHL teams. The Voyageurs were an AHL team for a while but no longer exist. The Boston Bears, as far as I can tell, have never existed in any form. There is an AHL team in Hershey Pennsylvania called the Bears and of course there are the NHL’s Boston Bruins. And the Bruins, of course, are bears so that’s the team I decided to go with for Ilya’s uniform. Below are the logos I went with. I altered the Voyageurs logo slightly to remove some stylistic points on the letter M. To the Bruins logo, I merely added a bear’s head where the B usually is to make it ...

Custom Funko Pop Tutorial

Image
I’ve had several requests for tips on how to make a custom Funko Pop so I thought I’d put together a step-by-step tutorial for anyone who’s interested. I’ll be using Simon & Baz as examples but just know they are rather advanced Pop-ery - not all pops are this complicated or difficult. But most of the info below is relevant to any custom pop you may want to make. Even if you're not making Simon & Baz, do read through the entire tutorial as there are relevant tips throughout. Leave a comment below if you have any questions or requests for anything you want to see that I haven’t included here.  ❤ ❤ ❤ STUFF YOU’LL NEED Paper towels Cups that fit a funko pop inside (one cup per funko pop) Boiling hot water Acrylic paints & paint brushes (if painting is required) Optional but recommended: Box cutter/X-acto knife Super glue (the gel kind, *not* the liquid) Toothpicks (helpful for small detail paint work & clean-up) Matte Finish spray Here's the Pops I'm working w...
